The Great Canadian Sing-along

Welcome to St. George’s!
For over 230 years, St. George’s Anglican Church has been a cornerstone of the St. Catharines community, offering a daily breakfast program and other feeding ministries and providing a sanctuary of welcome in the heart of our city. Music has long been a key element of the church’s ministry. In times of uncertainty, St. George’s is always a place where voices are raised—not just in song, but in solidarity and hope.
Tonight’s Song Leaders

This prolific duo has released their 9th studio album, The Sum of All Love. Infinitely More’s previous recordings have been nominated for 15 national music awards. The Good Ol’ Hockey Game
Songwriter and Original Artist: Stompin’ Tom Connors
Hello out there, we're on the air, it's 'Hockey Night' tonight
Tension grows, the whistle blows, and the puck goes down the ice
The goalie jumps, and the players bump, and the fans all go insane
Someone roars, "Bobby Scores!", at the good ol' Hockey Game
CHORUS
Oh! The good ol' Hockey game, is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name, is the good ol' Hockey game
Second Period
Where players dash, with skates aflash, the home team trails behind
But they grab the puck, and go bursting up, and they're down across the line
They storm the crease, like bumble bees, they travel like a burning flame
We see them slide, the puck inside, it's a 1-1 hockey game
CHORUS
Third Period. Last game of the playoff too!
Oh take me where, the hockey players, face off down the rink
And the Stanley Cup, is all filled up, for the champs who win the drink
Now the final flick, of a hockey stick, and the one gigantic scream
"The puck is in! The home team wins!", the good ol' hockey game
CHORUS
Summer of 69
Songwriters: Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance | Original Artist: Bryan Adams
I got my first real six string
Bought it at the five and dime
Played it till my fingers bled
Was the summer of '69
Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit, Jody got married
I should've known we'd never get far
Oh when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life (hey)
Ain't no use in complainin'
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin's down at the drive-in
And that's when I met you! yeah
Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life
Back in the summer of '69
Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever - forever, no...
And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six string
I think about you wonder what went wrong
Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that it'd last forever
and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life
Back in the summer of '69

O Canada (bilingual)
Songwriter: Calixa Lavallée (music), Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier (original French lyric), Stanley Weir (original English lyric)
O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all of us command.
Car ton bras sait porter l’épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
Bobcaygeon
Songwriters: Gordon Downie, Johnny Fay, Robert Baker, Joseph Paul Langlois, Robert Gordon Sinclair | Original Artist: The Tragically Hip
I left your house this mornin'
About a quarter after nine
Could have been the Willie Nelson
Could have been the wine
When I left your house this mornin'
It was a little after nine
It was in Bobcaygeon, I saw the constellations
Reveal themselves one star at a time
Drove back to town this mornin'
With workin' on my mind
I thought of maybe quittin'
I thought of leavin' it behind
I went back to bed this mornin'
And as I'm pullin' down the blind
Yeah, the sky was dull, and hypothetical
And fallin' one cloud at a time
That night in Toronto
With its checkerboard floors
Riding on horseback
And keepin' order restored
'Til the men, they couldn't hang
Stepped to the mic and sang
And their voices rang
With that Aryan twang
I got to your house this mornin'
Just a little after nine
In the middle of that riot
Couldn't get you off my mind
So I'm at your house this mornin'
Just a little after nine
'Cause it was in Bobcaygeon where I saw the constellations
Reveal themselves one star at a time
Heart of Gold
Songwriter and Original Artist: Neil Young
I want to live
I want to give
I've been a miner
For a heart of gold
It's these expressions
I never give
That keep me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
Keep me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean
For a heart of gold
I've been in my mind
It's such a fine line
That keeps me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
Keeps me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
Keep me searching
For a heart of gold
You keep me searching
And I'm growing old
Keep me searching
For a heart of gold
I've been a miner
For a heart of gold
Call Me Maybe
Songwriters: Carly Rae Jepsen, Josh Ramsay, Tavish Crowe | Original Artist: Carly Rae Jepsen
I threw a wish in the well
Don't ask me, I'll never tell
I looked to you as it fell
And now you're in my way
I'd trade my soul for a wish
Pennies and dimes for a kiss
I wasn't looking for this
But now you're in my way
Your stare was holdin'
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?
Hey, I just met you
And this is crazy
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
It's hard to look right
At you baby
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
Hey, I just met you
And this is crazy
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
And all the other boys
Try to chase me
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
You took your time with the call
I took no time with the fall
You gave me nothing at all
But still, you're in my way
I beg, and borrow and steal
At first sight and it's real
I didn't know I would feel it
But it's in my way
Your stare was holdin'
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?
Hey, I just met you
And this is crazy
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
It's hard to look right
At you baby
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
Hey, I just met you
And this is crazy
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
And all the other boys
Try to chase me
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad
I missed you so, so bad
Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
And you should know that
I missed you so, so bad
It's hard to look right
At you baby
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
Hey, I just met you
And this is crazy
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
And all the other boys
Try to chase me
But here's my number
So call me, maybe?
Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad
I missed you so, so bad
Before you came into my life
I missed you so bad
And you should know that
So call me, maybe?
If You Could Read My Mind
Songwriter and Original Artist: Gordon Lightfoot
If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
About a ghost from a wishin' well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as I'm a ghost, you can see
If I could read your mind love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind the drugstore sells
When you reach the part where the heartaches
Come the hero would be me
Heroes often fail
And you won't read that book again
Because the ending's just too hard to take
I'd walk away like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three way script
Enter number two, a movie queen
To play the scene of bringing
All the good things out in me
But for now love, let's be real
I never thought I could act this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back
If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
About a ghost from a wishing well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet, the story always ends
If you read between the lines
You'll know that I'm just trying to understand
The feeling that you lack
I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back
Snowbird
Songwriter: Gene MacLellan | Original Artist: Anne Murray
Beneath this snowy mantle cold and clean
The unborn grass lies waiting
For its coat to turn to green
The snowbird sings the song he always sings
And speaks to me of flowers
That will bloom again in spring
When I was young
My heart was young then, too
Anything that it would tell me
That's the thing that I would do
But now I feel such emptiness within
For the thing that I want most in life's
The thing that I can't win
CHORUS
Spread your tiny wings and fly away
And take the snow back with you
Where it came from on that day
The one I love forever is untrue
And if I could you know that I would
Fly away with you
The breeze along the river seems to say
That he'll only break my heart again
Should I decide to stay
So, little snowbird
Take me with you when you go
To that land of gentle breezes
Where the peaceful waters flow
CHORUS
Both Sides Now
Songwriter and Original Artist: Joni Mitchell
Rows and floes of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
Looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and they snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way that you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
And you leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It's love's illusions that I recall
I really don't know love
I really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say, "I love you," right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
Oh, but now old friends, they're acting strange
And they shake their heads and they tell me that I've changed
Well, something's lost, but something's gained
In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
Lovers in a Dangerous Time
Songwriter and Original Artist: Bruce Cockburn
Don't the hours grow shorter as the days go by
You never get to stop and open your eyes
One day you're waiting for the sky to fall
The next you're dazzled by the beauty of it all
CHORUS
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
These fragile bodies of touch and taste
This vibrant skin, this hair like lace
Spirits open to the thrust of grace
Never a breath you can afford to waste
CHORUS
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Sometimes you're made to feel as if your love's a crime
But nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight
Got to kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight
CHORUS
Hallelujah
Songwriter and Original Artist: Leonard Cohen
Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor falls, the major lifts
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well, really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light in every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Closing Remarks
– Tom Vaughan
Life is a Highway
Songwriter and Original Artist: Tom Cochrane
A love's like a road that you travel alone, there's one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand, sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There's a world outside every darkened door where blues won't haunt you anymore
Where the brave are free and lovers soar, come ride with me to the distant shore
We won't hesitate or break down the garden gate
There's not much time left today
CHORUS
Life is a highway, I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long
Through all these cities and all these towns it's in my blood and it's all around
I loved you now like I loved you then, this is a road and these are the head
From Mozambique to those Memphis nights, the Khyber Pass to Vancouver's lights
Knock me down, I'm back up again, you're in my blood, I'm not a lonely man
There's no road I can't hold, a road so rough, this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in, just tell 'em we're survivors
CHORUS
Oh, there was a distance between you and I
A misunderstanding once, but now we look it in the eye
There ain't no load that I can't hold, road so rough, this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in, just tell 'em we're survivors
CHORUS
Thank you for raising your voices—and your spirits—with us!
The Great Canadian Sing-along was born from a simple idea: that coming together in song can lift hearts, build community, and celebrate the country we call home. Whether you belted out every lyric or hummed along from the pews, your presence helped turn this gathering into something joyful, meaningful, and uniquely Canadian. Thank you for sharing your voice and your time—let’s keep singing, together.
